MARGAO: The Kadamba Transport Corporation depot at Margao got inundated following heavy rains.
Nearly the entire ground floor of the depot was flooded with the employees claiming that their complaints to the authorities have been completely ignored.
Videos and photos of the inundated Margao depot were posted on social media platforms. The depot has at least 200 workers, other conductors and drivers attached to the Margao KTC bus terminus. The entire stores section housing the bus spares was flooded with knee-deep water. Other rooms and cubicles on the ground floor lay submerged following heavy downpour. The vehicle repair bay too was underwater. The Margao depot employees who have been habitual to this situation in the past were seen making their way through this knee deep waters.
On the condition of anonymity, some employees informed that the condition of the bus depot and the flooding had been conveyed to higher authorities on several occasions but in vain.
They said whenever they complained about the depot condition the authorities gave lame excuses saying that the corporation is running into losses. The employees said that they have now stopped complaining with regards to the depot condition and have got habituated to the situation. They have also urged the Chief Minister to look into the condition of depots.
The water logging is not only restricted to ground floor but the leaking roof on the first floor has also caused flooding in the offices.
GOACAN convener Roland Martins criticised the depot condition, which he claimed has gone from bad to worse. He asked the KTC MD Venancio Furtado to make a surprise visit to the depot to get a first hand information on the state of affairs here.
“The depot manager cannot handle the affairs of the depot infrastructure. Hence we have written to the Managing Director to inspect this depot and others too,” Martins added.
