PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is tipped to be part of Narendra Modi’s cabinet if the BJP is voted to power after the May 16 results, on Wednesday ruled out any role for him at the Centre stating that none of the senior leader has told him so.
Speaking to media persons on two different occasions in Panjim, Parrikar said that he would not be going to Delhi, and that none of his leaders have told him anything about it. “I have not got any call from my senior leaders…let them call me….let me see,” he told reporters soon after meeting the agitated Cavrem villagers Wednesday evening.
“This is the news spread by you (media) people…I am happy to hear that,” he commented when asked whether he would be inducted into Modi cabinet after polls results, which are scheduled on May 16.
Earlier Wednesday morning during a function organized by People’s Higher Secondary School, Parrikar said “I am going nowhere. I will be here. I will be stuck here,” he said. Parrikar’s response was to Chairman of People’s High School Managing Committee Rahul Deshpande’s speech addressing Parrikar as the soon-to-be Union finance minister.
“I am not going to Delhi,” he reiterated denying his national ambitions.
According to several media reports Parrikar would be inducted as the Union home minister in the ‘dream team’ of Modi. Parrikar was the first person to openly support Modi as the saffron party’s prime Ministerial candidate. He had even expressed his views post the crucial BJP national executive meeting that had taken place in Goa last year.
Parrikar, after taking over as the Goa Chief Minister in 2012, had announced publicly that this is his last assembly election. However, he later retracted the statement.
