PANJIM: While law enforcing agencies have taken steps to tighten the noose around traffic violators in a bid to curb accidents, the State saw 260 accidents in July last.
Directorate of Transport’s compilation of their monthly report on the number of accidents indicates that out of 260 road accidents, 16 were fatal (North Goa – 10 and South Goa – 6), 16 grievous accidents (North Goa – 6 and South Goa – 10), 50 minor accidents (North Goa – 19 and South Goa – 31) and 178 non – injury accidents (North Goa – 142 and South Goa – 118).
The number of people who lost their lives in road accidents was 17 (North Goa – 11 and South Goa – 6). The data further reveals that eight riders and four pillion riders, while four pedestrians were amongst those who lost their lives in the road accidents.
“Twenty people were grievously Injured (North – 6 and South – 14) while 73 persons suffered minor Injuries (North – 30, South – 43),” the data further reveals.
Transport Department has also issued challans to the violators with a total 8286 challans issued in the month of July.
