An Indian bison (gaur) was injured after being struck by an unidentified heavy vehicle while attempting to cross the road at Sukhtali–Mollem.
According to sources, the incident occurred when the wild animal was crossing the stretch that passes through forested terrain. The vehicle involved in the collision reportedly fled the scene.
Officials and staff of the Goa Forest Department rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the mishap. The team assessed the condition of the injured animal and initiated necessary steps to provide medical assistance.
The incident has once again raised concerns over wildlife safety on highways passing through forest areas, particularly in and around Mollem National Park, where movement of wild animals across roads is common.
Authorities are expected to review measures to prevent such accidents, including stricter speed monitoring and increased signage in wildlife corridors.
