PANJIM, SEPT 30 The Tourism Department is set to introduce integrated beach cleaning in the State which will, first, but to begin with it will be introduced be implemented at beach stretches of Sinquerim-Baga in North Goa and at Utorda in South Goa.

The Tourism Department is set to introduce integrated beach cleaning in the State which will, first, but to begin with it will be introduced be implemented at beach stretches of Sinquerim-Baga in North Goa and at Utorda in South Goa.
The integrated beach cleaning involves collection, segregation and treatment – all three jobs to be carried out through mechanized process.
Speaking to Herald Swapnil Naik, Director of Tourism said   tenders for integrated beach cleaning project will be floated shortly.
The department has already vetted financial and legal obligations for the project, he stated.
It will be a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project, and being first of its kind, the department will handover the responsibility of procuring the machinery to the party that would be selected through tendering for carrying out the work.
Depending on the success of the project, it will be extended to other beaches.
The department expects to incur yearly expenditure of Rs 1 to 1.5 crore on integrated beach cleaning. Currently, the tourism department gets beach cleaning done manually through contractors.
