VASCO: Vasco residents are upset with the authorities having to bear the brunt with the deteriorating road conditions. While the internal roads are full of potholes, with monsoons less than a month away, locals have questioned why these roads have been ignored.
Sources with the PWD have stated that some patchwork may be done but that the tarring of these internal roads, which had been proposed earlier, is on hold due to the ongoing code of conduct.
However, commuters, who have been crying foul after having to endure a bumpy ride every day, fear that the conditions of the roads will worsen once the monsoons begin.
Even tourist such as Oliver Santorio from Italy complained of his taxi ride through the city. He said that if Vasco is expected to be a tourist destination, the infrastructure has to be in a proper shape.
Another professor by the name of Shilpa raised concerns of the possibility of accidents during the monsoon period and pointed out that it is difficult to identity potholes as water covers the surface area of the roads.
PWD engineer Pandurag Naik said that the tarring of the internal roads had been done way back in 2011 but that after that no tarring had been done. He added that the proposed tarring of roads will be done segment by segment.
While it is likely that there will only be patchwork for now; until they receive further orders, the tarring will begin after the code of conduct.
