PANJIM: Ahead of the monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly, the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) met on Tuesday to chalk out its floor management and strategy to corner and expose the BJP-led government on its failures and wrongdoings on the Floor of the House.
Addressing media persons, Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavalekar said it’s been almost 15 months since the coalition took over, however, several issues of public interest remain pending. “In fact, it has been six and half years since BJP is ruling the State. But the issues that were pending in the last five years, continue pending even today,” he said.
“We are going to expose the government on its failures. Every Minister will have to answer us as to what they have done in their departments as far as people centric issues are concerned,” he said, but refrained from enlisting the issues.
CLP at its last meeting had discussed mining, drugs, regional plan, ODPs, Mopa airport, developmental works, employment as issues to be raised in the House.
Kavalekar said that in Tuesday’s meeting there was a detailed discussion on floor management. “We will be united to expose the government’s wrong doings on the Floor of the House,” he stated.
CLP has also decided to question Speaker Pramod Sawant as why their request to extend the sitting of the House from 12 days to a minimum 18 days was disallowed. “We are yet to get an official communication from the Speaker’s office on the matter. We will question the Speaker in the right forum,” Kavalekar said.
Speaking on development front, Kavalekar said that despite assuring Rs 18 crore works in each constituency, no files have been approved or work orders issued. “Chief Minister had assured Rs 15 crore plan works and Rs three crore non-plan work. However, no works are taken up in our constituencies and the reason is not known,” he stated.
