PANJIM: Panjim Police have arrested a person for allegedly possessing a fire arm and 11 live rounds without licence. The 42-year-old man, identified as Eloy Gomes from Verna, was found by the police to be moving suspiciously at Panjim KTC bus stand on Tuesday.
Panjim PI Siddhant Shirodkar said the arrest was made under Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act. “He was found aimlessly moving around the KTC bus stand between 9.30 am and 10.15 am. We interrogated him at the bus stand but he did not give us a satisfactory reply. He was then searched and found in possession of a fire arm and 11 live rounds. Our police team then brought him to the police station and arrested him,” he said.
The preliminary investigation found that Gomes, who originally hails from Mumbai, had befriended a retired scientist in his 80s and was living at the latter’s house at Merces. “The accused left his rental accommodation in Merces along with the ATM card that belonged to the house owner. He has also withdrawn money using the elderly man’s ATM card. We are investigating into this aspect as well,” said an officer.
