PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata party’s senior national leader Arun Jaitley on Sunday termed their pre-poll alliance talks with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak party (MGP) as re-polarization of political forces.
Addressing media persons in Panjim, Jaitley, who is the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, said that the re-polarisation of the political forces is not unknown.
Jaitley said that the alliance with MGP in Goa is justifiable as it weakens the ruling regime. “It’s a strategy of the party,” Jaitley added.
MGP, which has been sharing power in Congress-led Government in Goa, is in talks with BJP over pre-poll alliance for the coming assembly elections.
Though it was almost certain that BJP and MGP are tying knot, a sudden move by MGP leader and Transport Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar to have talks with senior Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi, last week has halted the alliance process.
As reported by Herald earlier, MGP has already identified candidates in 16 constituencies, and in fact, it had no intention of going with BJP from the beginning.
Meanwhile, responding to a question about minority leaders like Mathany Saldanha joining the Party, Jaitely said “I am glad that people from minority community are joining us”.
“Conventionally there has been a campaign against our party that we are anti-minority but our policy always speaks that we never discriminated against the minorities,” Jaitely said adding that the leaders of minority groups have realised that there are moral crisis created by the congress.
