PANJIM: BJP’s leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said that people who can make impact in Goa’s politics were involved in rape and murders spoiling the image of the State.
Jaitley is in Goa to flag off Jana Sampark Abhiyaan on January 16, which will travel through 35 constituencies in the next fortnight. He is accompanied by BJP’s Goa desk in-charge Arti Mehra.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Jaitely alleged that the kind of crime like rape and murder has spoiled the name of Goa and unfortunately, those involved in it have impact on the politics.
“This is tragic in the life of state and nation,” he commented.
The senior leader said that the BJP during its tenure has a track record of offering a complete clean government.
Targeting Congress-led government, Jaitely said the Congress is facing a “dual incumbency” factor in Goa, with both the Congress led governments in the State and Centre, ridden with scandals and maladministration.
“Politics in Goa is facing an unparalleled crisis of credibility. What is happening in Goa is reflected at the Centre in matters of bad governance, corruption, leadership crisis, a weakening economy hitting a low and a policy paralysis,” Jaitley said lamenting ‘a small state (Goa), which has too much potential, is not in a news for right reasons’.
The Party, as such, has appeal people in Goa to seek these coming assembly elections as an opportunity to emerge out of moral crisis in Goa, pushed off by Congress.
Jaitley said that the BJP would contest the March 3 assembly polls on a moral plank, which had been handed over to them by a ‘discredited and scandal-ridden’ government. “We will fight and will win the elections,” he said.
When asked about the midnight drama in the Rajya Sabha over Lokpal bill, Jaitley termed the day as ‘black day’ in the history of Indian parliament.
