VASCO: Two P3C Orion aircraft of Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) is currently on a visit to the state. The aircraft arrived at premier Naval Air Station, INS Hansa on Sunday and will depart on Tuesday.
P3C Orion is a four-engine Long Range Anti-Submarine Warfare and Maritime Surveillance aircraft. Commander Masayuki Kamakura is the Commanding Officer of the JMSDF detachment and is a pilot of the Japanese P-1 & P-3C aircraft.
Commander Masayuki Kamakura called on Rear Admiral Puneet K Bahl, VSM, the Flag Officer Commanding Goa Naval Area on Monday and discussed various bilateral issues. A team of Indian Navy officers and sailors visited the Japanese aircraft for familiarisation and interaction. Various operating procedures and professional issues were discussed. A joint exercise including exchange of air riders was also undertaken on Monday between P3C Orion and Indian Navy’s Long Range Anti-Submarine Aircraft P8I. The detachment also visited aviation facilities at Hansa.
