Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao has said that the councilors-elect of the Cuncolim Municipality will meet on November 6 to discuss and decide the question of the new civic Chairperson.
Sources in the know said the CMC vice-Chairperson Landry Mascarenhas has staked his claim for the top post and his supporters have already conveyed the decision to the Urban Development Minister.
It is learnt that Landry and his supporters have made it quite clear to the Minister that he would not settle anything less than the Chairperson’s post. Landry was re-elected from ward 8 with a handsome margin, defeating his rival Alvis Almeida in a straight fight.
When contacted, the Urban Development Minister refused to throw any light on the delicate question of the Chairperson’s post saying the issue will be discussed at a meeting with the councilors-elect on November 6.
“I want to hear from the councilors their choice of candidate for the top post. I will not impose my will on the councilors-elect”, he said.
Sources in the know said that the Urban Development Minister will take a decision taking into account that this being the election year.
