PONDA: Mangirish Pai Raikar, the chairman of Ramnath Crisna Pai Raikar Education Society, which runs an agriculture school at Savoi Verem, said that there are a lot of employment and self-employment opportunities after studying at the agricultural school.
Addressing the media along with school in-charge Srirang Zamble and Pradeep Lotlikar, Raikar said that, to encourage and attract students in the field of agriculture, the school was started in 2013. Students who passed Std X were given admission for Stds XI and XII, and from this year, a three-year diploma course has been introduced.
All these courses are affiliated to Goa University, and there was a provision of around 30 seats for the students.
“The course is around 70 percent practical, due to which most students are able to learn and answer exams better. Courses such as floriculture, pomology, olericulture, gardening, landscaping, general foundation course, etc, can be chosen by the students, through which they can either be employed at commercial establishments involved in farming or with government farming centres. Besides, the students are also given knowledge about how to produce manure, vermicomposting, etc,” said Raikar.
He further said that there was demand by ‘bayatdars’ or landlords in Goa for students from the agricultural field to cultivate flowers, vegetables, etc, in their land in exchange for attractive salaries.
Those from any age group and who have completed their Std XI exams can join the diploma course of the agriculture school and cultivate their barren farming land.
He added that these students would also job opportunities at government institutions after completing the course.
