PANJIM: Joseph Fernandes, who has been named in the FIR registered at Calangute Police Station for allegedly disturbing peace at Candolim, said that there was no flashing of a gun or any street brawl near the Newton’s supermarket.

Speaking to O Heraldo, Joseph said, “Nobody pushed any one. It was only an argument.” Giving details of how the incident unfolded, he said, “My family had gone to Mapusa to attend a party. Our daughter was performing there. Once the performance was over we came home. But we had a birthday party for my nephew. So we went to attend it. My son was the last person to come and he was riding a bike. When he reached Newton’s Super Market, the vehicle in front of him which happened to be of Abu Farhan Azmi stopped suddenly and turned towards left without giving any indication. This caused my son to almost bang Abu’s car. Though he did not bang. So my son went near the car and asked Farhan why he did not give indications.”
“Farhan started talking aggressively which made son more angry so he gave a blow to the side of the mirror. However, no damage was caused to the vehicle, ”he said.
My son moved away from there and came to the birthday party. I was not with him when he was riding the bike. When my son came, he was accosted by Abu Farhan Azmi verbally. This is when Abu Farhan mentioned that he had got a gun with him. He said that he will trace my son and eliminate him. However, he did not flash a gun. We were told about this and we came out. By the time we got there Farhan had already called the cops. When the cops came they asked my son to sit in the police vehicle,” he said.
Fernandes said, “We protested and told them that Abu Farhan too should sit in the police vehicle. Then the PSI got Abu Farhan to sit in the police car. However, before they could leave I asked the PSI to check the car if there was any gun. Then we went to the police station and there was also an argument. Abu Farhan showed the licence to possess a gun and carry it in Maharashtra and Goa.”
“Abu Farhan wanted to compromise, but refused to file a complaint. We also did not want to make it a big issue. However, the PI said that since so much ruckus has been created on the street with traffic being blocked, he will file an FIR against both the parties. But we are not responsible for the ruckus as we did not invite anybody except our family members. People came to support us as they know us and there would not have been a ruckus had Abu Farhan not parked his vehicle at the place where he is not supposed to park,” he said.
