Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has said that the state government would not implement the Right to Education Act without taking the various stake holders into confidence.
When his reaction was sought on apprehensions expressed by parents vis-à-vis the medium of instruction policy at the primary level, Kamat said the Act might have been passed without taking the ground reality in various states into consideration.
“Different states have different situations. Each state has its own system and educational environment,” the chief minister said, adding that that the government would study the provisions of the Act and also take the various stake holders into confidence before thinking of implementing the Act.
Moreover, the chief minister said the government would not implement the full day school in haste, adding that the Education Minister and Director of Education will take the stake holders into confidence before introducing the concept.
When his attention was drawn to the requirement that the Act has to be adopted by the State, Kamat said the Act is presently being studied by the Education Department.
Parents Teachers Association of various schools have rejected outright the introduction of mother tongue as the medium of instruction at the elementary level at Std V and have instead demanded English as the medium of instruction with Konkani as the compulsory subject from std I-VIII.
