Banastarim: Residents of Karmali staged a protest outside the Public Works Department (PWD) office at Banastarim on Monday, objecting to the issuance of a water availability certificate for a proposed mega project in their area.
The protesters expressed concerns over the availability of water resources and questioned whether the region could support the additional demand that the large-scale development would generate. They argued that local residents are already facing challenges related to water supply and urged authorities to reconsider the decision.
During the protest, residents demanded that the water availability certificate granted for the project be revoked, claiming that priority should be given to safeguarding the water needs of existing communities.
The demonstrators also called for greater transparency in the approval process and sought assurances from the concerned authorities that the long-term impact of the project on local water resources would be thoroughly assessed.
The protest highlighted growing concerns among residents about infrastructure planning and resource management as large development projects continue to be proposed in various parts of Goa.
