Kavalekar makes plea to Parrikar

MARGAO: Quepem MLA Babu Kavalekar on Friday made a fervent plea to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to reinstate all the workers who were terminated by the Directorate of Sports with effect from October 1.

Kavalekar told the media that though the Directorate of Sports has terminated 154 workers, he has requested the Chief Minister to take back the 24 workers who were manning the sports complex at Quepem since 2011. “I am of the opinion that no one should be terminated from their job after putting in three and half years of service. But the case of the 24 employees, who were manning the Quepem sports complex, is different as they were appointed at the time when the complex was commissioned in 2011”, Kavalekar added.
“The 24 employees working at the Quepem sports complex were recruited at the time of the complex inauguration. They are all from Quepem and should be treated differently since their services were required to run the complex after its inauguration”, he added. Replying to a question, Kavalekar said he would take up the matter with the CM to press for their reinstatement.
It is learnt that a delegation of the beleaguered workers, who were issued termination orders, had called on the
CM, with a plea to reinstate them in service.
