The gram sabha also came down heavily on MLA Caitu Silva for burning the effigy of Dhavlikar and demanded that the MLA should first clear whether he is Indian or Portuguese, as his citizenship has become an issue in the State.
The villagers at the gram sabha discussed on the issue of Dhavlikar’s statement on pub culture and wearing bikinis on beaches and said the minister has made the right statement to protect Indian culture, as neither bikinis nor the pub culture is Indian.
The villagers said there should be separate space reserved on the beaches for tourist women wearing swim suits and not the whole beach.
The villagers also submitted a memorandum to the panchayat to submit it to the government.
Local clubs also submitted their memorandum to Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar stating that semi-nude women pose a threat to their safety. They also demanded to frame law to ban such activities.
The sarpanch said the memorandums and resolution will be submitted to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and other authorities concerned. Other issues like providing house numbers and development work in the area were also discussed.
