1 Securing Land: The most precious resource that we have is our land. It’s a resource we are fast losing either through
the conventional manner of it being sold, albeit by locals, or through acquisition by the government for projects. This is where
farmers and other land holders are literally helpless. A people-led regime will ensure that land locals own and want to keep
is protected. At the same time equitable distribution of land, especially barren land will be more than enough to cater to the
needs of industry.
2 Ending Corruption: One of the main causes why corruption festers is because people pay bribes to secure jobs. That amount is sought to be first recovered and then profits sought. Former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s infamous remark in the assembly that everyone in the TCP department was corrupt probably sealed this. The job scams in the health and power department are legion across party rules. Even politicians’ relatives
are kingpins.
3 Stop U turns and make your government
deliver: Let’s look at the failures of the
current government. It has
buried the Regional Plan and
ignored demands of taking
the plan to the people
of Goa, the economy
is in a shambles, and
government employees
are agitating against
the government,
garbage management and
treatment are still struggling
to take off and key tourism stake holders
are at loggerheads. A good alternative
government should reboot the way key
departments like tourism and health are
run in a professional manner. Departments
that are connected to our culture and youth
like sports have to become nerve centers of
growth and even employment. Apart from
state of the art facilities, a plan for grassroots
development of major sports will see us
produce champions. These programmes
have to handled by domain experts and not
politicians or officers.
