PANJIM: A Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) passenger bus was engulfed in flames in Bambolim on Friday evening. The passengers, driver and conductor escaped unhurt. But the KTC suffered a loss of Rs 11 lakh.
Sources said that at around 6.30 pm a KTCL 45-seater bus carrying passengers and headed to Vasco from Panjim began to emit smoke from the cabin.
The driver stopped the vehicle, alerted the passengers and had them evacuate the bus and then the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services (FES) just before the entire bus was engulfed in flames.
FES Station Fire Officer said that an electric short circuit in the battery was the probable reason behind the fire.
“We received the call around 6.36 pm. As per the driver smoke started coming out from the cabin and then the passengers were evacuated. There were no casualties. Electric short circuit in the battery was the probable reason behind the unexpected fire,” said a FES officer.
