Residents along the newly constructed Western Bypass stretch from Navelim to Benaulim have voiced serious concerns over the complete absence of street lighting, raising alarm over road safety and sanitation issues.
The unlit stretch begins approximately 100 meters from the Navelim petrol pump and extends up to the Benaulim junction, leaving the entire segment in pitch darkness after sunset. Locals claim that the lack of lighting not only endangers motorists and pedestrians but also encourages illegal garbage dumping during the night.

“The road becomes unsafe after dark, especially for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. People also use the cover of darkness to dump waste, which is creating a health hazard,” said a resident.
Citizens are now urging the concerned authorities to install street lights along the bypass without further delay. They emphasized that proper lighting is essential for ensuring road safety, deterring illegal activities, and maintaining cleanliness in the area.
