SANGUEM: With rains lashing the State, water leakage at the government building has affected the offices of Mamlatdar, Veterinary, BDO and PWD in Sanguem town and has put in jeopardy the safety of documents and files at various offices.
The top floor of the building ~ which house the offices of Mamlatdar, Veterinary, BDO and PWD has been badly affected, with the worst affected being the PWD (Div XVI).
With leakages all around the place, the staffers are seen shuttling from one corner of the office to the other to find a dry place to work.
In a bid to protect important files from getting damaged, the officials have covered the them and other important documents and computers with plastic sheets. Plastic buckets are also seen placed at every corner of the office to collect the dripping rainwater.
Incidentally, with officials shifting places to protect themselves from rainwater, people visiting the building for official work have a hard time locating officials.
Enquiries revealed that the work of maintaining the building premise is looked after by the PWD (maintenance division) based in Ponda and Quepem. However, aggrieved officials speaking on condition of anonymity informed that except for painting work of the exterior on important days like August 15, January 26 and December 19, no maintenance work is undertaken.
