PANJIM: Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) has appealed to local governing bodies to constitute village and municipal level child protection committees, in a bid to protect children.
GSCPCR, in its meeting held on Thursday, decided to activate village and municipal child committees in order to protect rights and interest of the children as per the Goa Children’s Act 2003 and Rules 2004.
“The Commission has appealed to all the village panchayats and municipal bodies to constitute the committees and inform the commission at the earliest,” GSCPCR said in a statement.
“This will help the commission to coordinate with the committees to protect the children from getting abused or any other violation of their right by bringing to the notice of the Commission,” it added.
GSCPCR was set up in March 2007 under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005. One of the primary mandates of the Commission is to ensure that all laws, policies, programmes and administrative mechanism are in consonance with a child rights perspective as enshrined in the Constitution of India.
