Mapusa: Frustrated villagers of Calangute headed by North Goa Youth Congress marched to the Calangute Police station and protested against the collapse of law and order situation in the State after the body of a 19-year-old girl was found at Calangute beach on Thursday morning.
The Youth Congress along with senior members of the party including Bina, former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes, Joseph Sequeira protested outside the Calangute police station.
The protestors claimed that when authorities suppress any case it’s the duty of the public to question the authorities including the police. “We are here to seek justice to the female found dead”, said a protestor.
“CM claims that parents must take responsibility of their child. Does that mean people are not supposed to move out? As per post-mortem report it’s a case of drowning but we want to know how the girl reached calangute, with whom she went and how she reached Calangute. We want clarity on this”, the protestors said.
Responding to the protestors, SDPO Edwin Colaco said,”post mortem is conducted by panel of doctors. We have not closed the case. Staff of three police stations are investigating into the case. We are scanning each and every angle.”
The protestors further questioned what action was initiated after the missing complaint was filed by the girl’s family. They also questioned if investigations is in progress and so far what has the police found.
“Goa is tourism destination however law and order situation has completely collapsed with murders, rapes and robberies taking place and these have touched the highest number during the BJP government rule and police are only busy in raiding Ganja and impose fines”, claimed the protestors.
Joseph Seqeuira former Sarpanch of Calangute alleged that prostitution activities are going on in Calangute between 11pm to 5am. Massage parlours in the village are used for prostitution purpose”.
Questions were also raised if the post mortem found any traces of alcohol or drugs in the body and further alleged that this is like a serial killing where several incidents of rape and other crimes are reported against females. “This is total collapse of law and order. Who is accountable for this? Authorities should have strong hand over this and get the culprit behind bars”, the protestors claimed.
Meanwhile, Dy Collector Bardez who was also present assured that the police is investigating into the matter thoroughly. “I assure that the case is being investigated thoroughly. She was found in a condition which has created many doubts in the mind of the people but police is investigating every possible angle. The angle of sexual assault was discussed and a panel of experienced doctors have given the report that there is no such case of sexual assault. We have nothing against the girl. We are here to give justice to the deceased. We assure that the case is solved as soon as posible”.
