VASCO: Locals from Headland-Sada along with the two Mormugao Municipal Council councillors sent back four trucks which reportedly came at the Sada waste dumping site to dump mixed waste from Chicalim area, on Saturday.
The councillors warned to take stringent action if waste from outside the municipal jurisdiction is dumped at the dumping site where the legacy waste was cleared by Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, recently.

Several locals from the Ward Number 4 and nearby area rushed at the dumping site after they learnt that around four trucks filled with mixed waste are going towards dumping site to dump waste where the legacy waste has been cleared. The aggrieved locals sent the trucks back, which have reportedly come with the waste from Chicalim area.
Speaking to the media persons, Ward Councillor Damodar Kaskar informed that he received information since last five days some trucks loaded with mixed waste are allegedly dumping at the space where the legacy waste was cleared.
“People from Sada have been facing the foul odour and other issues for so many years and now that the legacy waste was cleared by Urban Development Minister, we will not tolerate waste from outside the municipal area to be dumped here,” he added.
Another Councillor Murari Bandekar Saud said, “Since many years the legacy waste was piled up at the Sada waste dumping site and people were suffering due to the bad odour, stray dogs menace etc. Recently, the Urban Development Minister with the use of biomining solid waste treatment plant cleared the legacy waste within few months time. Now people can breathe fresh air.”
“But sadly we came across the issue that some trucks are reportedly dumping waste from Chicalim at Sada, which is intolerable. So we asked the drivers of the trucks to show if any permission was taken to dump the waste which they couldn’t furnish and therefore we warned them not to dump the waste here and sent the trucks back,” Bandekar said.
The locals gathered said that they are feeling great to see the long piled up legacy waste cleared by Urban Development Minister and the area looking clean and odour free. They also mentioned that the waste from outside the municipal area should not be allowed to dump at Sada.
