Ponda: Locals and motorists have called upon the government to complete the construction of the approach road to the new four-lane Khandepar Bridge at Opa junction, which was inaugurated a year ago.
The locals say that without the approach road, the Opa junction has become accident prone and they risk meeting with accidents while crossing the junction.
The bridge was inaugurated by Union Minister for State Mansukh Mandavia on December 21, 2018 without the approach road on Ponda side.
In the absence of this approach road, vehicles plying from Belgaum to Panjim, after crossing the bridge, proceed on the service road towards Ponda side at Opa junction.
And according to the locals, due to heavy traffic, the Opa junction has become accident prone and crossing the junction is too risky.
It is learnt that the approach road could not be completed by the contractor as the landlord, through whose property the approach road is to be built, got a stay order from the court.
Fearing accidents, the locals have urged the government to settle the issue at the earliest.
