Lost GPS recovered

KARWAR, JULY 19 A large ball-shaped instrument lying in the Heble Panchayat, near Bhatkal, has puzzled locals. There was a hue and cry in the local media regarding the origin of the instrument and speculation about its purpose.

A large ball-shaped instrument lying in the Heble Panchayat, near Bhatkal, has puzzled locals. There was a hue and cry in the local media regarding the origin of the instrument and speculation about its purpose.
On Saturday, it was finally revealed to be a Global Positioning System (GPS) instrument belonging to the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa. It was installed in deep water 15 km off the Malpe coast near Udupi, for metrological research. It had been missing for four days and now it has b een sent back to Goa.
