MARGAO: The Loutolim gram sabha on Sunday unanimously resolved to oppose the proposed jetty at Rassaim which they said was part of the Sagarmala project that the Central government is pushing on the people to benefit a few corporate houses and approved setting up a mobile tower in the village.
The gram sabha condemned the Central and State government for not respecting the people wishes as expressed in two earlier gram sabha resolutions adopted on July 30, 2017 and December 10, 2018.
The gram sabha also opposed and rejected handling of coal or any other hazardous substances in the village of Loutolim or River Zuari which borders it on one side.
The gram sabha rejected the Inland Waterways Authority of India proposal to construct a jetty at Rassaim through the Captain of Ports of Goa government or any other State government agency along with similar jetties proposed anywhere else in Goa.
The gram sabha argued that the jetties was in keeping with the Sagarmala project that seek to open up waterways as a mean of transportation for some corporate houses much to the detriment of the local people and local environment and ecosystem.
The gram sabha also resolved to permit a mobile tower to be set up at the village ground after one of the main person objecting to setting up the tower agreed to its requirement.
The gram sabha also resolved to prohibit heavy traffic from plying on the road leading to the IDC property through Loutolim village.
