BENAULIM: It was Churchill Alemao’s probable last public meeting as a candidate for assembly elections on his home ground of Dando where he made an emotional appeal to the people to vote him one last time.
And it was Luizinho Faleiro his ally in TMC and Rajya Sabha MP who upped the ante on the need to start a movement against MPT becoming a major Ports Authority. Reminiscing his days as a fighter for the Konkani language agitation, Faleiro said that “he is very angry” and his blood boiled during his recent visit to Mormugao on party work. Everything there has coal dust. You can’t touch any surface without your hands getting black. Literally, every berth in the port is earmarked for coal transportation”
He said, “This is the time to start a movement” both against the formation of the Major Ports Authority” and the MPT become a port of coal. Everything you touch id dust”
Faleiro launched his attack on the formation of the Major Ports Authority which would give MPT unlimited powers and jurisdiction over large parts of South Goa’s coast effective over several coastal and even hinterland villages.
Faleiro also waved documents obtained which he said was proof enough that the renewal for the consent to operate and transport coal for both companies owned by the Adanis and Jindals were given during the tenure of the Congress government between 2007 and 2012
“Today we need a larger movement. Goans must come together to fight against the Major Ports Authority Bill. I have raised this in Parliament and will do so again. We will have to fight against treachery, betrayal, and lies, which has made Goa a coal hub. I will fight for this as I did for statehood and language,” thundered Faleiro. He added, “Merchants of greed and death have sold Goa and I cannot keep quiet”
