MARGAO: Firmly setting to rest all speculations about his candidature for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat, AICC observer and General Secretary Luizinho Faleiro on Thursday categorically ruled himself out as the Congress candidate in the ensuing polls given his pre-occupation with party work and the responsibilities bestowed upon him by the Congress President Sonia Gandhi at the national level.
Speaking to Herald from the national Capital, Faleiro said “I am greatly humbled by the support received from my friends and well wishers, including MLAs and other leaders for my candidature. I am grateful to my supporters and party leaders who were behind me to contest the coming Lok Sabha Polls”. Faleiro, who is leaving for the USA tonight on a five-day visit, said the responsibilities bestowed on him by the party leadership do not permit him to contest the ensuing poll.
Saying that Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has reposed their faith and trust in him to work for the party at the national level, Faleiro said it is his bounden duty to work for the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in all the seven North Eastern states under his charge.
