PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee on Saturday demanded roll-back in hike of price of LPG cylinders and fuel prices.

Addressing a press conference at the Congress Office, here, GPMC President Been Naik said that hike of LPG cylinder by Rs 873 per cylinder has upset the monthly budget of families and demanded that the price should be rolled back immediately.
Accusing the government for stopping subsidy of LPG cylinder since April last year, Naik said that the Mahila Congress has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant requesting him to provide relief to the consumers by crediting subsidy into their accounts.
Stating that the fuel prices were also rising, Naik demanded that the State government should slash Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel and provide relief to the people. She said that in 2012 the government had slashed VAT on petrol and the petrol had become cheaper in the State.
Naik said that at present VAT on petrol was 27 per cent and 23 per cent on diesel and due to hike in fuel prices, the prices of consumerable goods increased.
GPMC Vice President Fernanda Colaco said that ever since the Modi government has come to power at the Centre, the common man is reeling under pressure of inflation.
Panaji Block Mahila Congress President Muktamala Fondevkar and GPMC member Sandra Fernandes also demanded roll-back in prices of cooking gas and to bring respite to the people.
