Deputy Collector Bardez D M Redkar has appealed to all sections of society to desist from any activity which could disturb law and order in view of the Ayodhya title suit verdict to be pronounced by the Allahabad High Court.
He was speaking at the meeting of representatives of all faiths convened by him in his office on Thursday.
“The verdict of the high court may go in favour of one party, but the aggrieved party has a right to appeal against the verdict in the Supreme Court,” stated Redkar.
“The Central government has also appealed to people not to draw any hasty conclusions on the verdict and had assured the people that the issue will be settled amicably. Hence after verdict, people should not get disturbed and take law in their hand,” said Redkar.
Redkar further said the state government has imposed Section 144 prohibiting assembly of people in the state and it will continue till September 25.
“Hence, no procession should be taken out without prior permission of the government. In the State, people of all religions have been living in peace and harmony for years together and there has been no communal tension,” he said.
“The people should accept the verdict of the High Court with an open mind and should not undertake unlawful activity to demonstrate their protest which might disturb peace of the State,” added Redkar.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sammy Tavares advised the few citizens invited to the meeting to appeal to the people of their respective communities to cooperate with the police and help maintain law and order in Bardez taluka.
“The police department has also deployed reserved police in sensitive areas as a preventive measure,” informed DySP Tavares.
Bardez Mamlatdar Gaurish Shankhwalker, DySP P L Mapari, Porvorim Police Inspector Devendra Gad, representatives of Jamma Masjid (Mapusa), Hamzasha Masjid (Betim), Gossia Masjid (Socorro), Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, RSS, Mapusa and Popular Education Trust were present for the meeting.
