The Children’s Court on Monday sentenced a 25-year-old man for ten years rigourous imprisonment and fine of Rs 2 lakh on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor boy.
He is also sentenced to under go additional rigorous imprisonment for six months in the event he fails to pay the fine amount.
According to the prosecution, on September 20, 2007, the accused Neeraj Maan, who then resided in Vasco, forcefully detained a eight-year-old minor boy inside his house and had unnatural sex with him. Accused also threatened the victim to kill him if he opened his mouth.
Following a police complaint, an offence of grave sexual assault was registered against the accused under section 2(y)(i) and under section 8 (2) of the Goa Children’s Act 2003, being an unnatural offence under section 377 of Indian Penal Code.
He was also charged for child abuse under sections 2(m)(i) and 8(2) of the GCA, r/w 323 Indian Penal Code and also section 506 (ii) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for criminally intimidating the minor boy under.
The prosecution examined ten witnesses in support of the case. The President of the Children’s Court Desmond D’Costa passed the order sentencing the accused.
