The incident occurred in the afternoon when the locals noticed the man stuck neck-deep in mud and struggling to free himself from the swamp. The locals first tried to rescue him in vain and later informed the Vasco fire station, who rushed to the spot and rescued the person identified as Wilson Nilu, a native of Andhra Pradesh.

It is learnt that Wilson had entered into the waters for fishing during low tide, and got trapped in the marshy area.

Since it was a challenging situation, the fire personnel used a combination of ropes, a harness, and a ladder to collectively pull the man out of the muck and brought him on land even as the man had to undergo mental trauma.
