The secretary was transferred by the minister for hiding information regarding matters in the village.
Speaking to the media Mandrekar said, “I had transferred him because he had not provided me with certain information which I had asked for. He made me and the director wait for five hours.”
Queried for details of the information, the minister said, “There was some issue of illegal construction in the village, and I wanted to know the matter. I still don’t know what exactly happened. As far as I know it’s something related to some hotel in the village.”
Saldanha, who is the local MLA, refused to comment, but a member of the delegation said that the secretary is efficient and therefore they want him in the village.
Asked if he will revoke the transfer order, Mandrekar said, “Next week I will have a meeting with the Panchayat director, Secretary Kiran Mista, MLA Saldanha and other members and we will discuss the matter.”
Pointing to an increase in the number of complaints of illegal construction, Mandrekar said, “I get around 20 to 25 letters every day complaining about illegal constructions in the villages. I forward this letters for verification to the Panchayat director.”
