Waste mess gets worse in Sinquetim, Navelim and Telaulim

MARGAO: Even as Sinquetim locals have complained that the Navelim village panchayat vehicle has failed to collect dry garbage from their locality, the neighbouring Telaulim panchayat has halted the door-to-door collection of dry plastic waste in the village.

In a bid to get the villagers to stop mixing wet and dry waste, Telaulum sarpanch Prudencio Carneiro reasoned that the panchayat had not collected garbage as their pleas to the resident to stop mixing waste had fallen on deaf ears.
Carneiro said that the villagers refused to co-operate, and hence the panchayat took a decision not to collect the garbage last week.
Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado along with the Telaulim panchayat will soon be executing a plan to stream line the door to door collection and plan to hold an awareness programme in the village to get the villagers on board as segregation at source is key to the optimal functioning of the door to door collection drive.
It is to be noted that  Telaulim village is the only panchayat in the Navelim constituency to have outsourced its garbage collection a person and a person has been appointed to collect only the dry garbage.
The village panchayats of Navelim, Aquem Baixo, Davorlim and Rumdamol have been provided with vehicles to collect the garbage from house to house.
