Mapusa carnival turns into damp squib

The Carnival floats parade in Mapusa turned out to be a damp squib, with the lacklustre participation of a few floats on Tuesday.
The floats parade, which commenced from Mapusa Court at 4 pm, was flagged off by Goa Tourism Development Corporation Vice Chairman Lyndon Monteiro and Mapusa Municipal Corporation (MMC) Chairperson Rupa Bhakta. MMC councilors were also present on the occasion.
Thousands of people from Mapusa and surrounding areas converged on the streets to witness the floats parade, but were disappointed to see participation of very few traditional floats.
About 40 floats, traditional (15), institutional (15) and others (10) participated in the parade that culminated near Bodgeshwar temple.
The floats in the traditional category, which could evoke good response from the huge crowd, are Nizache Gavalli, Kunbi Wedding, Goenchi Girestakai, Mobile Saloon on Wheels and Save Aqua Life.
The institutional floats like Maggie, Cloud 9, Medimix and Budweiser entertained the crowd.
Due to poor management on the part of the organizers and Mapusa Police, people were seen all over the streets due to which floats had to face a tough time in wading through the streets.
