PANJIM: The Mapusa Police have arrested four persons for allegedly stealing electrical cables and seized two trucks full of stolen underground cable worth lakhs of rupees.

The accused have been identified as Mohammad Rehan Ali (19), native of Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, and currently residing at Chandwado, Margao, Saif Ali Khan (18), from Mushirwado, Colvale, Firoz Abdul Rahim Khan (19) from Nasik, Maharashtra, and Ramu Nandu Soni (21), from Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, and currently staying at Kundai, Ponda.
Police said the accused were arrested while they were in the process of stealing large number of sophisticated underground cables which were being put by the Electricity Department.
An offence under sections 303 (2), 324 (3) and 324 (5) R/w 3 (5) of BNS, 2023, and the case is being investigated by PSI Yeshwant Mandrekar under supervision of PI Nikhil Palekar, SDPO, Mapusa, Sandesh Chodankar and overall supervision of SP North Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
Meanwhile, Mapusa Police said, ” We are laying extra emphasis on night time patrolling. As has been directed by the Chief Minister and senior officers, we have increased our staff deployment at night. This success is an example of the recent efforts that the staff has put in.”
“We had been receiving information that certain thieves were involved in stealing electricity cables. Subsequently, we had put a trap and managed to arrest them. Interrogations are on-going to understand how they used to dispose off this property, and who were the beneficiaries,” the police said.
