PORVORIM: Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has revised pay-parking charges for vehicles parked in the renovated taxi stand.
The decision was taken unanimously by councillors in the council meeting on Thursday. MMC Chairperson Sudhir Kandolkar placed the proposal of revised pay-parking charges before the councillors. After detailed discussions, the pay-parking charges finalized are for two and four wheelers, Rs 5 for first two hours and thereafter Rs 5 for every hour, black and yellow taxis Rs 150 per month, auto-rickshaws Rs 75 per month and motorcycle taxis Rs 50 per month. These charges are applicable from 7 am to 9 pm and the pay-parking charges for the night will be Rs 25.
MMC also decided to construct 60 additional shops atop Block B and C of the commercial building alongside the temporary fish market shed, spending Rs 1.32 crore from the municipal fund.
A resolution to prepare a master plan for the development of the municipal market through Goa State Urban Development Corporation in consultation with Mapusa Merchants Association and the councillors was adopted.
The issue of charging a new rent at the rate of Rs 78 per sq mtr from 2009 also came up for discussion. Councillor Sandeep Falari said the decision to increase the rent of the shops to Rs 78 per sq mtr taken in 2009 by the council was not approved and hence suggested that the shopkeepers should be charged rent at old rates.
Some councillors said since the issue was not in the agenda, the matter should be differed. Chairperson Kandolkar said he will call a special meeting of the council to discuss the issue of charging new rates for shops.
The issues of transfer of kiosks to blood relations, laying of new pipeline and overhead tank at Mapusa under JNNURM scheme and removal of illegal scrap yards were also discussed.
