Mapusa hospital likely to be operational by year-end

PANJIM, JULY 14 The new district hospital in Mapusa is most likely to be commissioned by end of this year even as the BJP has threatened to agitate if it is not opened by August 15. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday here Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane ruled out any possibility of the new hospital being thrown open next month.

The new district hospital in Mapusa is most likely to be commissioned by end of this year even as the BJP has threatened to agitate if it is not opened by August 15.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday here Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane ruled out any possibility of the new hospital being thrown open next month. However, he indicated that efforts are on to commission the hospital at the earliest in joint venture with a private player.
The consultants will be appointed soon and will also finalise a partner for the joint venture. He once again made it clear that it is not possible to commission the hospital in its existing set-up and he will not like to play with lives of the people by falling prey to pressure tactics of the Opposition.
The new hospital will offer super specialities besides regular specializations. He claimed adding he has made all efforts to make health services better and also to improve agriculture sector.

The number of EMRI ambulances have been increased to 23 from 18. The Yatri Niwas will have a 24-hour pharmacy where as stainless operation theater which is under construction will be completed within six months. The trauma unit will be ready in the next two months, he said.
The Centre has sanctioned Rs 50 crore for upgradation of the GMC, informed Rane adding 50 per cent of the cost of upgradation will be borne State Government and remaining up-gradation of the GMC will be done in a phased manner, he said.
