MARGAO, JAN 7
More than two months after their election to the Civic body, Margao City Fathers on Friday had an interaction with the heads of the various Municipal sections on various issues affecting the day-to-day administration.
While Chairperson Sushila Naik said the objective behind convening the meeting was to introduce the City Fathers to the sectional heads, sources in the know said the City Fathers wanted the administration to be more responsive to the demands of the people.
Civic Chief Officer, Prasanna Acharya was conspicuous by his absence, but the closed door meeting was attended by the Municipal engineers and heads of other sections.
Sparks reportedly flew at the meeting when Councillor Laxmikant Kamat, who is the Chairman of the garbage Committee, demanded to know how the Civic body could take certain decision on the garbage front by keeping him in the dark.
Kamat is believed to have drawn attention of the Chairperson that many decisions have been taken on the sanitation front without taking him and other members of the garbage committee into confidence.
The Chairperson, however, said that the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere to ensure better coordination between the elected representatives and the administration.
“The meeting was basically to introduce the City Fathers to the sectional heads and is the first such meeting with the newly-elected Councillors”, she added.
Replying to a question on the garbage problem plaguing the city, the Chairperson said that efforts are on to solve the burning problem. Saying that she is committed to make Margao city clean and green, Naik sought the cooperation of all concerned, including Councillors and citizens to achieve the objective. “I alone cannot make the city clean and green. I need the support and cooperation of everyone in the city to achieve the objective”, she added.
