GMC to host series of events to update medical knowledge

Medical Education Cell (MEC) of the Goa Medical College (GMC) is slated to hold series of events at the medical institute premise.
The newly constituted MEC has planned out extensive academic activity for 2011 and 2012 in form of workshops and training by renowned visiting faculty.
“The visiting faculty will be from all over the country and will consist of stalwarts who have done pioneering work in respective specialty,” Continuing Medical Education (CME) coordinator and Head of (Orthopaedics) Department Dr S M Bandekar told media persons at a press conference late on Friday night.
The faculty members will also conduct difficult surgeries and for this, the Cell is contemplating approaching the Indian Medical Association for eminent speakers.
“The series of events will update the knowledge of others including medical practitioners,” he said adding that they have already conducted a CME on critical care, recently.
The Cell has invited Dr Sunaina, attached to a renowned hospital in US to conduct a workshop on how to detect deafness in early childhood, on January 13.
This will be followed by another workshop on liver transplant by Dr Rahul Kakodkar, attached to Jupiter Hospital in Mumbai. Dr Rahul handled the sensational Nadia Torrado case, last year when she was shifted to Mumbai before being transported to Chennai hospital where she died from complications after consuming ratol.
GMC meanwhile, will be celebrating its golden jubilee year on March 12, 2012. GMC Dean Dr V N Jindal said that both these years will also be full of programs for the general public and doctors on various health related issues.
