MARGAO: A day after the Chief Minister publicly declared that his government would not throw anyone on the roads, representatives of Margao Comunidade were guarded in their reaction, saying they will act at the right time.
Commenting on the Chief Minister’s announcement, Margao Comunidade Attorney, Celestino Noronha, wondered how the government can regularise the illegal structures when they are blatantly illegal. “The Margao Comunidade is an intervener in the writ petition and we will act at the right time. Let the government make the announcements. We believe that illegal structures should go. Even the Supreme Court has made clear that illegal structures should go. If the government has plans to rehabilitate them at some other place, we have no objection to its policy, but certainly, Talsanzor and Moti Dongor hillock should be clear from the illegal structures and encroachments.”
When his attention was drawn to the fact that some Goan families have pleaded with the government to save their structures from Talsanzor, Celestino said, “The Margao Comunidade has compiled a detailed report after a survey how many Goan families are putting up at Talsanzor and how many structures have been given on rent to outsiders. We will come out with the figures and statistics at the right time.”
