MARGAO: Residents of Margao need no longer queue up at the Margao Municipal Council to pay their house tax. They can pay their tax online from their homes or from any part of the world using any debit card, credit card or net banking facility.
Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza inaugurated the e-payment facility created by the HDFC Bank for the Civic body. This first-of-its-kind initiative in Goa will reduce time spent commuting and queuing up to make house tax payments. Currently, Margao’s 45,000 registered tax payers make payments at the civic body through cash and cheque, which can be a time-consuming process.
Speaking on the occasion, the Urban Development Minister said that Margao civic body has become the first Civic body to go online, adding that all the civic bodies should follow suit and go online. He said that all other payments including rent, advertising tax should also go online.
Speaking on the occasion, Circle Head, HDFC Bank, Jorge Bravo D’Costa said the Margao Municipal Council has achieved unique distinction by becoming the first in the state to enable electronic payment of government tax. “At HDFC, we feel privileged to be chosen as a partner to implement the initiative”, he added.

DMA Elvis Gomes said the Urban Development Minister is ready to fund complete e-governance if the civic bodies are ready to implement the concept. MMC Chairperson Dayanand Deulkar and CO Deepali Naik also spoke.
