MARGAO: In a significant development Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes on Tuesday directed the concerned officers of civic body to carry out a survey pertaining to the illegal businesses running in the jurisdiction of civic body.
As informed by the Chief Officer, several business establishments are running without obtaining any licence, besides some of the financial institutions running on rented premises are not paying the property tax. Even the petrol pumps are found carrying out additional unauthorised business without any trade licence.
“It is brought to my notice that most of the petrol pumps within the jurisdiction of this council are carrying out additional unauthorised business without obtaining any trade licence. And hence the Taxation Section has been directed to carry out the survey and submit the factual report within a period of three days,” he said.
He further said that some of the financial institutions running on rented premises are not paying the property tax and advertisement fees, signboards displayed on their premises and even trade licences.
“Some of the banking institutions are also running ATM counters without the valid trade,” the CO said.
He also said that daily vendors are squatting all around the station road as such the business of the shopkeepers is badly affected, and hence the municipal inspectors are directed not to allow road side vendors from the station road from 6 pm to 8 pm and from 1 pm to 3 pm.
