Commercial capital of Goa, the Margao city is set to get one more college to absorb increasing number of commerce students. The Chief Minister Digambar Kamat at a press conference held at his official resident at Altinho on Tuesday here declared that a new college for commerce stream is being opened from this academic year in Margao.
The Chief Minister in its budget this year had assured to open a new commerce college. Currently, three commerce colleges in the city cater to about 700 students, however Kamat, said this academic year there has been spurt in the number of commerce students.
The number of students who cleared XII in commerce faculty has reached to 933 and to accommodate increased students aspiring to pursue higher education in commerce, the new college will be opened at Borda Multipurpose Higher Secondary, Margao.
The new college will be affiliated to Goa University and operate under the tutelage of Government College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Quepem. It will offer specialisation in Financial Accountancy, Cost Accountancy and Management, he said.
The prospectus will be made available at Borda Higher Secondary from June 2 and admissions will begin from June 4, he said.
