Marina project public hearing postponed

PANJIM: Under pressure, the State government on Tuesday postponed the public hearing on the proposed Marina project at Nauxim village, that had been scheduled on November 2, at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium. 
North District Magistrate R Menaka in a notice issued announced that the environmental public hearing of the proposed establishment of AHOY Marina scheduled on November 2, stands postponed. She said the new date for the hearing will be intimated later. 
The project has been opposed by the villagers who claimed that the facility will disturb the ecology, harm marine life and destroy their traditional fishing activity.
Villagers from Odxel-Nauxim and surrounding villages, under the banner Goenkar Against Marina, had demanded postponement of public hearing pending finalisation of the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for the State. 
AHOY Marina, is to be developed by Kargwal Constructions Pvt Ltd, across 1,00,000 sq mtrs stretch, with land area measuring 50,000 sq mtrs as per the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report. The project was approved by the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) in 2015.
