PANJIM: The delay on the part of the State government to release nearly Rs 2 crore in grants to Goa Meat Complex (GMC) has left several of its employees without salaries for the last three months.
GMC employees have not been paid their salaries from January to March 2018. Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has served notice to GMC over non-payment of salaries.
GMC managing director Dr DM Naik Parrikar said that the corporation is dependent on quarterly grants from the government for salaries of its employees and other expenditure.
“The Corporation has already placed its demand with the government for grants of Rs 1,98,38,000 for salaries of employees and other expenditure for the quarter January 2018 to March 2018. The proposal was sent on January 23,” Parrikar said.
He said that the file is still in process and once the grants are received, the pending salaries will be paid to the employees.
As per the meat complex proposal, it has to shell out Rs 82,17,110 on its regular employees while it pays Rs 45,17,403 on wages of employees on contract basis.
