“There is complete disconnect between body and soul,” stated Narendra Kumar, Development Commissioner and Secretary Information while referring to “Fourth Estate “ — watchdog of democracy and freedom.
He was speaking at National Press Day function jointly organized by Goa Editors Guild and Goa Union of Journalist along with Department of Information and Publicity on Tuesday here.

“Kumar said “media is a body” and “journalist is its soul” but there is complete disconnect between the two.
There has been complete transformation in media now — newspapers offer glossy page, so many sections devoted to all aspects other than news, he pointed out while talking on “ Media in globalization & competition: challenges and opportunities.”
Earlier senior journalist from Mumbai Swati Deshpande in her key note address, said journalist should not compromise on quality of work and irrespective of who controls the media – the good work will get its due.
Emphasized the role of media as “watch dog” she said if voice of the journalist is breached then you can’t expect society to change.
The Chief Minister Digambar Kamat speaking on this occasion said transformation in media should benefit all sections of society.
On this occasion two senior journalists Arun Bhatkhande and Sharad Tednulkar were felicitated at the hands of chief minister for their valuable contribution in the field.
