PONDA: The Ponda Sub-District Hospital (SDH), which is mostly in the news for all the wrong reasons, has once under come under the scanner as a resident of Mardol has accused the hospital of negligence while treating his daughter, which allegedly led to her death.

Chandrashekhar Khedekar has accused the hospital of delay in treatment, which allegedly led to his two-year-old daughter’s death. He has demanded justice for his unrepairable loss.
He has demanded with the government to conduct an inquiry into the sudden death of his child. He also requested the hospital Medical Superintendent (M S) to provide the details of the treatment given to his daughter, including the medicines administered, doctors on duty and CCTV footages of his child being treated, between the period when she was admitted and discharged on November 23 and further readmitted the next morning, when her health deteriorated and subsequently died in the hospital.
“My daughter was sick for two days. On last Saturday (November 23), following bouts of vomiting and loose motion, I immediately rushed his daughter to the Ponda SDH at around 10.30 pm, hoping that she would get better treatment and recover. The doctors and nurses on duty treated her, gave a syrup and later discharged her, saying she was fine and fit for discharge,” Khedekar said.
However, I requested the doctor on duty to keep her under observation at SDH for a night. But as the doctor insisted that she be discharged, I he had no choice, but to take her home, he added.
After returning home, she consumed milk, had her meal and then went to sleep.
Next morning on Sunday (November 24), the child started vomiting and suffered from loose motion. She felt very weak, following which Khedekar rushed his daughter again to the SDH at 9.42 am. The doctors on duty, nurses started the treatment on him, however condition of his child deteriorated.
“There was no paediatrician at the hospital initially and turned up late. The medical staff present at the hospital gave treatment to her, but within one-and-a-half hours she breathed her last. Hospital’s negligence in treatment is the cause for my daughter’s death. I want the government to conduct an inquiry so that such incidents aren’t repeated,” he said.
He said had the SDH doctors heeded to his request on Saturday night to keep her under medical supervision, his daughter would have been alive today.
Meanwhile, the SDH M S, Dr Jayshree Marcaikar rejected the allegations of delay in treatment levelled by the father.
“The doctor on duty followed all protocols and gave immediate treatment when the child was admitted. There was no signs of dehydration and child’s condition appeared to be normal, after observing her health condition for 45 minutes,” Dr Marcaikar said.
She added that next day again the child was admitted in SDH in weak condition and breathing difficulties.
“All efforts were made by on-duty doctors and even the paediatrician reached within 10 minutes and made valiant efforts to save the child,” she said.
It may be recalled that the hospital is always in the news for wrong reasons, with locals complaining of inadequate medical facilities like CT scan etc, shortage of doctors and forcing them to rely on GMC Bambolim.
